The CEO of the Sustainable Apparel Coalition is stepping down on Dec. 29, the nonprofit announced Wednesday.
Amina Razvi has been with the organization, which is a collective of more than 300 organizations in the apparel, footwear and textile industries, since 2015. She has led the group as CEO since 2022.
Razvi and the SAC board mutually agreed it was the right time for her to step away, per the release, as “the organization enters a new phase of growth and expansion to adjacent product categories.”
During her tenure, Razvi helped SAC develop a new strategic plan in 2021 and refocused that plan in 2023 to prioritize sustainable impact at scale, as well as doubling membership for the organization to include more than 300 organizations, per the release.
“When I joined the SAC eight years ago, it was because I saw an incredible opportunity to drive positive industry transformation at scale,” Razvi said in the release. “From the very beginning, it was clear what this organization and community were capable of, working as a catalyst for industry collaboration.”
SAC’s members include Crocs, DSW, Columbia, Kering, HanesBrands and Nike, among others.
The organization also developed the Higg Materials Sustainability Index, which is meant to measure the sustainability of a garment. Its consumer facing program was paused last year and is currently undergoing an independent review. It came under scrutiny when the program was flagged by the Norwegian Consumer Authority for greenwashing claims.
Prior to SAC, Razvi worked as the senior manager for sustainable innovation at Gap.
Tamar Hoek, chair of the SAC Board and senior policy director of Sustainable Fashion at Solidaridad, will lead a transition taskforce, though the release states that no staffing, Board, or leadership changes are anticipated as a result of Razvi’s departure.
There isn’t a set timeline for finding a CEO replacement, a SAC spokesperson said in an email to Fashion Dive.
