Jonathan Anderson is leaving his position as creative director of LVMH-owned fashion house Loewe, according to a Monday Instagram post from the designer.
“Since my first day at LOEWE I found kindred spirits in the design studio and the atelier, whose talents were, and still are, second to none,” Anderson said in his post. “Thank you for sharing your craft. Over the last eleven years, I have been lucky enough to be surrounded by people with the imagination, the skills, tenacity and resourcefulness to find a way to say ‘yes’ to all my wildly ambitious ideas.”
During his tenure with the 179-year-old house, Anderson helped to raise its profile from quiet luxury stalwart to must-have fashion brand.
In addition to being a sponsor of the 2024 Met Gala, Loewe also landed in the top spot of the Lyst Index’s quarterly ranking for most-wanted brand for the first time in 2023. The brand returned to the No. 1 position again the following year after its looks in the popular “Challengers” movie helped it overtake Miu Miu in the second quarter of 2024. Also last year, Time Magazine named Anderson one of its 100 Most Influential People.
Prior to joining Loewe, Anderson was focused on his namesake label, JW Anderson, which he founded in 2008 and still controls. LVMH acquired a minority stake in that label in 2013, the same year it named Anderson creative director at Loewe.
While Anderson didn’t announce his next move, rumors have been swirling for months that he is eyeing the top spot at Dior. Kim Jones recently left his position as creative director at Dior Men.
There have been a dizzying number of creative director shifts over the past year as the luxury industry scrambles to reshape itself amid waning consumer demand.
For fiscal 2024, LVMH posted a 2% year-over-year revenue decline. Profit from recurring operations fell 14% for the year, and the company’s largest division, fashion and leather goods, posted a revenue decrease of 3%. The company does not report separate financial figures for individual brands.
