Gap launched an exclusive collection of pieces inspired by the Disney-owned movie franchise “Star Wars” last week, according to a press release sent to Fashion Dive.
The 52-piece capsule dropped in select stores and on Gap’s e-commerce platform Dec. 5. Available in children’s and adult sizes, the line features fleece separates, beanie hats, socks, T-shirts, outerwear and a tote bag. Prices range from $17.95 for crew socks to $178 for a Darth Vader varsity jacket.
The collection “is an elevated and edgy expression of the iconic films,” the company said in the release. In addition to the line’s muted, dark colors, several styles feature a reimagined version of the Gap logo paired with images of “Star Wars” characters. There are also photorealistic graphic tops featuring scenes from the film franchise.
Since the film’s original release in 1977, Adidas, Uniqlo, Columbia and multiple other brands have released fashion collaborations tied to its space fantasy universe, and Gap has also offered previous “Star Wars” collections.
This is the second major movie pairing for Gap this holiday season.
In October, the brand released a 20-piece collaboration with Universal Pictures based on the movie “Wicked.” That collection, which dropped a month before the film’s cinematic release, offered clothing in children’s and adult sizes. The line was rendered in green, pink and black, which the company said was meant to represent the movie’s lead characters, Elphaba and Glinda.
Another Disney collaboration with Gap this year was September’s release of a 1990s-style, varsity-influenced line featuring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck characters. That line, which offered clothing for children and adults, was a continuation of a partnership between the two brands which began in 2016.
