- Designer Margherita Maccapani Missoni will auction off 35 vintage and pre-owned items from her personal collection on eBay, according to a Thursday announcement from the online resale platform.

Bidding will start at $20.02 as an homage to the year the designer began shopping on eBay, per the release.
- In September, the designer launched a curated series on eBay called “MaccaFinds” that offered limited drops of accessories sourced from the resale platform, including some pieces that were styled in collections for her Maccapani fashion label, which launched in 2023, per the release.
Dive Insight:
The Missoni auction is the latest installment of eBay’s “From the Collection” series, which has previously hosted personal archive sales of items from streetwear designer Jeff Staple and musician Elton John.
Proceeds from Missoni’s auction will go to OAfrica, a nonprofit for which she serves as an international ambassador, and which aids children and their families in Ghana, per the release.
According to the release, Missoni has been shopping on eBay since she was a teenager, and furnished her first apartment in New York with items she sourced from the resale platform.
“As a curator by nature and forever a pre-loved enthusiast, I’m always on the hunt for pieces that inspire my creative process, and eBay has always been the destination for me to unearth treasures,” Missoni said in the release. “This collection is really a personal story for me, with each item reflecting moments from my career, my family, and my travels.”
The number of vintage Missoni clothes, shoes, and accessories sold on eBay increased by more than 130% globally over the past decade, per the release. The company attributed the surge to fashion enthusiasts, and Gen Z in particular, who are gravitating “toward instantly recognizable heritage brands to reinterpret the past and express their style in unique, sustainable ways.”
EBay’s 2024 Recommerce Report, released in May, stated that Gen Z and millennials are driving recommerce, with 66% of Gen Z and 62% of millennials surveyed saying that shopping for preowned goods has become personally important to them.
In September, eBay launched Pre-Loved Fashion Week in partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and the British Fashion Council as a way to encourage fashion consumers to buy preowned designer goods. The event featured live, shoppable runway shows and preceded the official spring-summer New York Fashion Week and London Fashion Week shows.
